38. The Jing (京族)


 • Homeland / Region: The "Three Islands of Jing" along the coast of Dongxing City, Guangxi.

• Total Population: Approximately 33,000.

• 🥳 Fun Fact: The Jing are the only ocean-fishing minority group in Southern China. They catch fish by wading through shallow waters on tall wooden stilts, and perform beautiful music on the Duxianqin—a traditional single-stringed zither that produces fluid, haunting notes by bending a flexible handle.

 • Homeland / Region: Historically native to Northeast China (Manchuria), with major populations now distributed across Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang provinces, as well as Beijing.  • Total Population: Approximately 10.4 million.  • 🥳 Fun Fact: The Manchu historically changed the course of Chinese history by establishing the Qing Dynasty, ruling China from 1644 to 1912. Their ancestral fashion legacy famously birthed the Cheongsam (or Qipao), a high-collared, form-fitting dress that directly evolved from loose Manchu banner robes. During grand festivals, Manchu women wear stunning, tall, fan-like black headdresses called Liangbatou (two-bow headdress) decorated with large silk flowers, jade ornaments, and sweeping tassels.

48. The Hezhen (赫哲族)

 • Homeland / Region: Banks of the Amur, Ussuri, and Songhua rivers in Heilongjiang Province. • Total Population: Approximately 5,300. • 🥳 Fun Fact: The Hezhen are historically known as the "Fish-Skin Tribe." They have a unique traditional process where they dry, scrape, and soften the skins of large salmon and carp, sewing the skin together with fish-bone needles to create tough, waterproof coats and boots.
